SAWNEE ELECTRIC MEMBERSHIP FOUNDATION DONATES $14,070.00 TO CHARITY

(Cumming, March 24, 2005)—Charitable organizations throughout Sawnee EMCs seven county service area continue to receive help through the Operation Round Up program and its generous participants. The individuals are contributing pennies, yet are making a great impact on the lives they touch through their generosity. At the most recent gifting, the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation granted $14,070.00 to local charitable organizations. “This program has the ability to reach all of the 501 c(3) and 501 c(4) charitable organizations within our service territory. In just over one year, our generous members have joined together, rounded up their bills and given over $45,000.00  to charity,” stated Cindy King, Director of External Affairs.  On March 18, the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation presented checks to the following charities:

  •  A Friend’s House – Forsyth Co. Child Advocacy Center received $2,250.00 to provide family assessments.  The center is located in Forsyth County.
  • KARE for Kids, Inc. received $875.00 to purchase eyeglasses for five (5) children in need. This organization is located in Dawson County.
  • Resources & Residential Alternatives, Inc received $6,000.00 to replace badly worn carpet and flooring in one of their residential homes. This home is located in North Fulton.
  •  Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department received $3,950.00 to purchase communication equipment for the fire-fighters.
  • MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) received $995.00 to purchase a “classroom kit” designed by Fatal Vision. The kit contains many of the needed tools to effectively educate youth on the dangers of underage drinking. This kit will be used by the Forsyth County Chapter of MADD.

Sawnee EMC adopted Operation Round Up in April 2003.  Through a voluntary sign up process, members are able to have their electric bills rounded up to the next dollar, donating the extra change to the Sawnee Foundation.  By donating your change to Operation Round Up, you can be sure that 100% of your donation will go to qualifying 501 (c)(3) or 501 (c)(4) charities within the communities that Sawnee EMC serves.  To sign up today, call Customer Service at 770-887-2363 or sign up by visiting our website at www.sawnee.com. Our website is also a great place to find the complete list of organizations that have received gifts and to access the application for gifting.
