Sawnee EMC Awards Scholarships
(Cumming, GA, May 17, 2005)—Two area students were each awarded $2,000 scholarships by Sawnee EMC at a reception on May 12, 2005.
The scholarship recipients were Julianne King, South Forsyth High School and Sara Mullinax, Forsyth Central High School.
This is the 6th year that Sawnee EMC has offered the youth scholarship program. The scholarships are funded by contributions from the cooperative’s employees and Consumer Advisory Task Force (CATF) members. A total of $19,000 has been awarded to 13 outstanding recipients over the last six years.
“As a member-owned cooperative, Sawnee EMC supports our community in many ways,” said Blake House, Vice President of Member Services. “Through these scholarships, we’re able to recognize young people who are making a positive contribution.”
The scholarship recipients were chosen from five (5) finalists in a field of 43 applicants from 14 area schools. A panel of three (3) retired educators judged the applicants based on school, community and work activities, an autobiographical essay and an interview. The scholarships may be used at an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school.
Julianne King, daughter of Gordon and Nancy King, will attend the University of Georgia. Sara Mullinax, daughter of Rickey and Patti Mullinax, will attend the University of Georgia.
