Sawnee Foundation / Operation Round Up Donates $19,730 to
Five Local Charities
Round Up donations are improving the lives of local citizens one penny at a time. Sawnee EMC members can voluntarily round up their power bill to the next whole dollar and donate that extra change to the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation. The funds will then be granted to local, deserving charitable organizations through an application process. The Sawnee Foundation Board of Directors recently awarded $19,730.00 to five local charities.
· Forsyth County Lion’s Club $1,500.00 · Grayson’s Gift, Inc. $4,700.00 · Whispering Hope Women’s Resource Center $5,000.00 · St. Vincent DePaul Conference in Dawson $2,400.00 · Habitat for Humanity – N. Central GA $6,130.00
All of the 501(c) charitable organizations must complete an application request for funding. The Foundation Board then reviews and investigates all requests.
The Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation consists of nine (9) volunteer Board members; one (1) from each of the nine (9) geographical districts within the Sawnee EMC service territory. Participation in the Operation Round Up program is completely voluntary. The program has been successful because of Sawnee EMC members’ generosity. Since inception of the program in 2003, over $350,000.00 has been donated back into the communities Sawnee EMC serves. Participation is easy. Sawnee EMC members can choose to sign up and automatically have their electric bill rounded up to the next dollar each month or they can choose the “round up” option on their bill on a monthly basis.
