HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT BLOCK BY BLOCK
(Cumming, September 2, 2003)—Sawnee EMC
is committed to preserving and protecting our environment, which is why we
offer alternate sources of environmentally-friendly energy. These alternative
methods of energy are referred to as “Green Power”. Green Power is sold in
blocks of 150KWhs and can be purchased for an additional $4.50 per month. On
October 1, 2003, Georgia’s first green power will be generated! You can sign up
now by calling our Customer Service Center at 770-887-2363, or send an email to
customerservice@sawnee.com. For
more information and to visit the Green Power website, go to www.sawnee.com.
GreenPower utilizes natural methods of
producing energy. These “environmentally friendly” methods include:
- Wind resources
- Solar resources
- Low-impact hydro resources
- Landfill gas
- Sewage methane gas
- Agricultural waste and residue
- Animal litter
By utilizing these natural methods,
as well as the bi-product methods, Sawnee EMC would be able to lessen the
impact that conventional means of producing electricity has on the environment.
Producing electricity by utilizing the methods mentioned above is more
expensive than conventional methods such as nuclear, coal or natural gas.
Sawnee EMC is a
consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to
approximately 104,000 members in Forsyth, Cherokee, Dawson, Fulton, Hall,
Gwinnett and Lumpkin counties. Collectively, Georgia’s 42 consumer-owned EMCs
provide electricity and related services to 3.7 million people, nearly half of
Georgia’s population, across 73% of the state’s land area. Georgia’s 42
electric membership cooperatives now serve more customers than any other state
network of EMCs in the nation.
