OPERATON ROUND UP- READY TO GIVE TO THE
COMMUNITY
(Cumming, September 9, 2003)— “Small Change That Changes Lives”… this
year, Sawnee EMC took these words to heart. Sawnee implemented Operation Round
Up. This innovative program provides financial assistance to worthwhile
activities and worthy individuals in our area. Through Operation Round Up, each
participating Sawnee member makes a small monthly contribution, averaging 50
cents a month. The Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation Board of Directors are
happy to announce that the first donations will occur in November 2003.
Through Operation Round Up, members can
“round up” their monthly electric bill to the next highest dollar. For example,
if your bill is $62.71, it will be rounded up to $63.00. The extra 29 cents
that you are donating goes directly into a charitable fund overseen by the
Sawnee Foundation. Participating members donate an average of $6.00 per year to
be given back to their community.
The Sawnee Foundation was specifically
developed to facilitate and distribute the funds generated by Operation Round
Up. All requests for assistance are evaluated and awarded by the Foundation’s
board of directors, comprised of volunteer leaders from our community. The best part of Operation Round Up is that
all, 100% of the contributions, will go to the Foundation to make life better
in our community.
To qualify for donations, organizations
must be 501 (c)(3) certified by the IRS and within our seven (7) county service
territory. Donations cannot be used to
support political campaigns or to pay power bills. At this time we are
searching for these organizations so that we can start the application process.
The members of Sawnee EMC have been very
supportive of Operation Round Up and are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to
disburse these funds. If you have any questions regarding this program please
call Cindy King at 678-455-1539 or visit our website at www.sawnee.com for more information. Sign up for Operation Round Up today and
let your spare change help change someone’s life!

Lumpkin counties. Collectively, Georgia’s 42 consumer-owned EMCs provide
electricity and related services to 3.7 million people, nearly half of
Georgia’s population, across 73% of the state’s land area. Georgia’s 42
electric membership cooperatives now serve more customers than any other state
network of EMCs in the nation.
