SAWNEE EMC EMPLOYEES DONATE TO HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIMS

(Cumming, September 15, 2005)— In recent days, our nation has watched in horror as the victims of Hurricane Katrina try and rebuild their shattered lives; it quickly became evident to everyone that these neighbors were going to need help. Sawnee EMC employees immediately opened their hearts and went into action. In one day, the cooperative family raised $4,384.

The funds were distributed to Mississippi and Louisiana EMC employees and their families that have lost everything in the storm. “We can only imagine what they are going through, repairing the power lines when they themselves don’t have homes to go to,” stated Cindy King, Director of External Affairs, Sawnee EMC. “We hope this gift will give them some comfort; knowing we are thinking about them and what they are going through.”

Sawnee EMC has sent two (2) crews as well as released all their contract crews to go help in the restoration of power in Louisiana. They join many other EMCs from Georgia and neighboring states.

Sawnee EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to over 128,000 members in Forsyth, Cherokee, Dawson, Hall, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Lumpkin counties. Collectively, Georgia’s 42 customer-owned EMCs provide electricity and related services to 3.7 million people, nearly half of Georgia’s population, across 73% of the state’s land area. Georgia’s electric membership cooperatives now serve more customers than any other state network of EMCs in the nation.
