Sawnee EMC Participates in Hands On Georgia Week

Commitment to community by getting Hands On.    Sawnee EMC employees rolled up their sleeves, put on their work gloves and volunteered their service as part of Hands On Georgia Week 2007. The Sawnee EMC crew donated their time to ABBA House, a women’s shelter in Cumming. “We trimmed large limbs away from the houses and the out buildings. We also trimmed up all the low hanging limbs in the yards and bush hogged the field behind the houses”, stated Eddy Yarbrough, Right of Way Specialist, Sawnee EMC. “Helping ABBA House was a privilege. This is a very good organization that helps a lot of women in need and it felt good to donate our time and expertise to help them out.”

Mr. Yarbrough and his crew joined an estimated 30,000 other volunteers throughout the state participating in Hands On Georgia Week. This volunteer program was launched in 2004 with Georgians performing large scale service projects in five cities around the state. In 2006 all 159 counties participated with 30,000 volunteers performing 125,000 hours cleaning the state’s waterways, picking up trash along the state’s highways and collecting cans for the state’s food banks, among other things. The focus this year is to tackle pressing needs in the communities.
