Sawnee EMC Introduces Advanced Metering Infrastructure
Web site (Cumming, GA) Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (Sawnee EMC), an electric distribution cooperative serving over 130,000 members and 150,000 accounts in north Georgia, announced today that it has released its “first generation” Advanced Metering Infrastructure or “AMI” meter data presentment website.
This site allows all Sawnee members who have received their AMI meter to see their daily energy usage for the previous thirty (30) days, as well as a host of additional information about Sawnee’s AMI project.
“We are very excited about this first generation data presentment portal”, states Blake House, Vice President of Member Services for Sawnee EMC. “In an effort to promote energy conservation, we feel one of the key components of our AMI system is to put each member’s energy usage information into their hands so they can see exactly how much power they are using and when they are using it”, he adds.
The AMI web portal is located at Sawnee’s corporate website (www.sawnee.com) and contains links to items such as each AMI meter’s past 30 day usage, a schedule and map of the AMI deployment, frequently asked questions (FAQs) about Sawnee’s AMI project and many other useful features.
The key tools located at this site are the graphs and charts of each member’s past 30 days of energy usage. “These tools have been designed to provide our members with a straightforward view of their energy usage data so they can see their general energy usage patterns and they can see which day they used the most energy,” states Carl Badgett, Vice President of Information Services. “We want our members to have the tools they need to be able to see what is happening at their home or business from an electric energy perspective and use that information to conserve energy”, he adds.
This first generation energy data presentment tool will be revised in the first quarter of 2010 with a more robust application that will provide “near” real time energy usage data and other information. As envisioned, this second generation application will have enhanced energy information as well as display monthly and daily power cost information and several other key features.
“History has shown us that, if our members know what their usage is and how much their bills are going to be on a real time basis, they will better control their energy usage through conservation and ultimately lower their monthly energy cost”, states House. “We want our members to use only the bare minimum of energy needed to light, heat and cool their homes and businesses; we think these new tools can effectively and efficiently do that”, he adds.
