Subject: Sawnee EMC Decreases WPCA
Contact: Blake House: VP Marketing & Member
Services
(Cumming, GA, November 20,
2009) – In these days of rising prices, Sawnee EMC members will be glad to
know that sometimes prices do actually go down, even if it is only for one
month.
Sawnee is proud to announce that
the Board of Directors of Sawnee EMC approved a retail rate decrease effective
December 1, 2009 for the month of December. The rate reduction will occur in
Sawnee’s Rate Schedule “R”, Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) Factor, which
is part of the various retail rate schedules by which Sawnee EMC electric
accounts are billed.
For December 2009, the WPCA will
be reduced to zero ($0.00/kWh) for energy billed under this rate for the month
instead of its previous rate of $0.01224/kWh. Generally, this action affects
all residential members and many commercial accounts served by Sawnee EMC. The
net effect of this action is to lower the amount each member pays for
electricity for the month of December.
It is projected that each
affected account will experience a decrease of $18.36 on the December electric
bill for every 1,500 kWh of energy used. Remember, the actual savings for each
member during this period will vary and is dependent on their level of usage.
“For various reasons, we have
experienced a reduction in our purchased power expenses for the year and, as a
cooperative, we pass these savings along to our members”, says Michael Goodroe,
President and CEO of Sawnee EMC. “We are so pleased to be able to have this
rate decrease; especially in this economy and just in time for the holidays”, he
added.
Blake House, Vice President of
Member Services, stated, “We all know that electricity prices will probably go
back up in January but, for now, we’ll take all of the good news we can get…no
matter how short-lived it may be”.
The Board of Directors and staff
strive to keep costs as low as possible for the members of Sawnee EMC.
