SAWNEE ELECTRIC MEMBERSHIP FOUNDATION DONATES $21,371.00 TO CHARITY

(Cumming, November 29, 2004)—Operation Round Up helped the holidays come early to a few local charities.  Thanks to the generosity of the Sawnee EMC Operation Round Up participants, enough money was raised to give much needed funds to charities in our communities. “This program has the ability to reach all of the 501 c(3) and 501 c(4) charitable organizations within our service territory. In just over one year, our generous members have joined together, rounded up their bills and given over $44,000.00  to charity,” stated Cindy King, Director of External Affairs.  On November 29, 2004, the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation presented checks to the following charities:

  •  Anna Crawford Children’s Center received $800.00 to purchase DVD recorders for their center. A.C.C.C. is the only agency working with Department of Family and Children Services, local law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office, to provide interviews to alleged child victims of sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, and witness to domestic violence.  The center is located in Cherokee County.
  • No One Alone received $4,246.00 to purchase beds and other furniture needed for the shelter. NOA is a domestic violence program that provides emergency shelter and comprehensive support services to battered women and children of Dawson and Lumpkin Counties. NOA is a state certified facility and is located in Lumpkin County.
  • Habitat for Humanity, Lumpkin County received $2,000.00 to purchase insulation for a four-bedroom home in Lumpkin County for a widow and her six children.  Habitat for Humanity is a people-to-people partnership drawing families and communities in need together with volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable housing with those in need.
  • Lumpkin County Volunteer Fire Department received $6,525.00 to purchase Automatic External Defibrillators for each of their units. The defibrillators will enable the Fire Rescue personnel to help victims before the ambulance arrives. “This will be a tremendous help in saving individuals lives, especially when they live so far from town and take longer to reach.” Chief Eggert stated.
  • Circle Five Volunteer Fire Department received $7,800.00 to purchase face masks with voice amplifiers. The department has been using masks that were purchased over 10 years ago. The face mask will allow the Fire Rescue personnel to perform their duties without fear of smoke inhalation themselves.

Sawnee EMC adopted Operation Round Up in April 2003.  Through a voluntary sign up process, members are able to have their electric bills rounded up to the next dollar, donating the extra change to Operation Round Up.  By donating your change to Operation Round Up, you can be sure that 100% of your donation will go to qualifying 501 (c)(3) or 501 (c)(4) charities within the communities that Sawnee EMC serves.  To sign up today, call Customer Service at 770-887-2363 or sign up by visiting our website at www.sawnee.com. Our website is also a great place to find the complete list of organizations that have received gifts and to access the application for gifting.
