THE SAWNEE EMC FOUNDATION DONATES $1,000 TO THE PLACE

(Cumming, December 12, 2003)—The Sawnee EMC Foundation is helping the holidays come early to a local charity.  The funds were raised through a new innovative program called “Operation Round Up”.  This program raises money for local charities by allowing Sawnee EMC members to have their electric bills rounded up to the next dollar. The extra change goes to the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation.  Thanks to the generosity of the Sawnee EMC members that participate in Operation Round Up, the holidays will be a little brighter this year.  On December 9, 2003, the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation presented a check for $1,000.00 to THE PLACE.  The money will be used to help fund the youth program that is designed to help children break the cycle of poverty and to build self esteem and stress education as the key to success”, states Sandy Beaver, Executive Director of The Place.

The Place is located at 2250 The Place Circle in Cumming.  This organization has been serving the Forsyth County community for over 28 years.  They offer a number of services including direct emergency assistance, food pantry, assistance to the elderly and a number of other programs.

Operation Round Up was founded in 1989 by Palmetto EMC and has been adopted by EMC’s all over the country.  “In the short time that Sawnee EMC has been participating in Operation Round Up, it has proven to be a successful program and driven by the spirit of the community to help their neighbors,” states Cindy King, Director of External Affairs, Sawnee EMC.  To learn more about the Operation Round Up program, visit www.sawnee.com or call Customer Service at 770-887-2363. ‘ Small change that makes a big difference’.
