 Natural Gas Rate Update

Volume 27, Issue 10          We're More Than Electricity, We're Service

Cool Weather Is On The Way…

The leaves are changing colors and falling all around.  The weather is beginning to cool off, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner.  That’s right, you guessed it…Fall is officially here!

As the season moves on into Winter, the weather will continue to get colder, so there is no time like the present to make sure your home is ready for what is ahead – cold weather.  You can start today by checking your home for air tightness.  Below is a quick and easy way to check your home for air leaks.

Take the Air Tightness Test - On a windy day, hold a lit incense stick next to your windows, doors, electrical boxes, plumbing fixtures, attic hatches, and other locations where there is a possible air path to the outside.  If the smoke stream travels horizontally, you have located an air leak in your home.

Follow the tips below for sealing those leaks and making your home more energy efficient:

  • Caulk and weatherstrip doors and windows

  • Caulk and seal air leaks where plumbing, ducting, or electrical wiring penetrates through exterior walls, floors, ceilings, and soffits over cabinets

  • Install inexpensive foam gaskets behind outlet and switch plates on exterior walls

  • Install storm windows over single-pane windows or replace them with double-pane windows

Got questions?  Contact our Energy Services Department at (770) 887-2363 or via email at marketing@sawnee.com.  By taking the proper precautions now, you can save time and money in the months ahead!

Attention All Business Owners

If you are a business owner or are in charge of your company’s utility bills, then this article is designed specifically with you in mind.

Sawnee EMC wants all of its members to be as energy efficient as possible.  Please take a moment to review the following questions…you may be surprised at the answers.

  • How long do the lights stay on in that unoccupied area of your business?
  • How long does the air conditioning run at lower temperatures during the day?
  • What temperature was your thermostat set at when you left your office last night?
  • How many pieces of office equipment were still on when you left?
  • Have you considered that every kilowatt hour you save means less operating expense for your company and more money to invest in other things?

REBATE INFORMATION!

Sawnee EMC has a rebate designed specifically for its commercial members.  That’s right. We want to give you an incentive to make your business more energy efficient.  Visit our Web site (www.sawnee.com) or call today for more details!

These and many other questions regarding overall energy efficiency are where you need to start when you get serious about saving money for business.

The answers to these energy efficiency questions can specifically be the difference between “high” and “low” energy bills.   Remember, the seemingly small practices that are overlooked each day can be costing you money.

Sawnee EMC wants to help you to save on your energy bill.  It’s easy…you can begin reducing your power bill by taking care of the small things first.  Simply turn off the lights, set back the thermostat, turn off unnecessary equipment, and watch out for those useless kilowatt consumers that occur each day.

For additional information and tips, please visit the Commercial Energy Center on our Web site at www.sawnee.com, or contact our Commercial Marketing Representative at 770-887-2363, ext. 7357, to speak with someone regarding commercial energy efficiency.

Question of the Month

QUESTION:  What is the “Wholesale Purchase Cost Adjustment”, or “WPCA”, that I see on my bill each month?

ANSWER:  Great question.  The “Wholesale Purchase Cost Adjustment”, or “WPCA”, is a separate line item on your billing statement that reflects our estimated annual energy and other costs that must be recovered by our rates over that to be collected through the values shown in our standard retail rates.  Traditionally, this value reflects the changes in wholesale purchase power cost that Sawnee has budgeted for in a particular time period, as well as other costs that are in excess of expected revenue.

Sawnee’s wholesale energy rates are constantly changing to reflect increases and decreases in the cost of purchased power.  The WPCA factor allows Sawnee to level out those costs to its members and limit rate changes throughout the year and year-to-year.

Sawnee EMC monitors WPCA and the other factors that contribute to its rates monthly and takes action when advisable to keep rates as low as possible.  Feel free to contact our Customer Call Center at (770) 887-2363 if you have any questions regarding WPCA or any aspect of your Sawnee EMC account.

Have You Made the Switch?

Hopefully the answer is “yes”, but for those who haven’t heard, you may be wondering what ‘switch’ we are talking about.  We are talking about switching your current natural gas service to Sawnee’s premier natural gas marketing provider, Coweta-Fayette EMC Natural Gas.

You have the power to decide which natural gas marketer can best serve your natural gas needs.  Why not choose someone you can “trust” and who offers consistently “low rates”.  That is why Sawnee EMC is pleased to offer its members the opportunity for natural gas service through Sawnee’s premier provider.

Take a few minutes and look to see what rate (e.g. the cost per therm) you are currently paying.  There is a good chance that Coweta-Fayette EMC Natural Gas will be lower than your current rate because, month after month, they offer one of the lowest rates in the state for both fixed and variable plans.  Are you beginning to get a little curious about what Coweta-Fayette EMC Natural Gas can offer you?

Then take the next step today!  Simply contact Sawnee’s Customer Call Center at (770) 887-2363 or visit us online at www.sawnee.com to sign up.  A few minutes of your time can mean big savings on your natural gas bill this winter!  You deserve to get the most for your natural gas dollar.

Sawnee EMC Wants You To Round ’Em Up!

No, we don’t want our members dressing up like you are ready for a cattle drive this Halloween.  What we do want is for you to consider rounding up your monthly electric bill” by participating in Operation Round Up.  This not-for-profit organization receives charitable donations from Sawnee EMC members and makes grants to local charities in the area that Sawnee serves.

Operation Round Up is an easy way for Sawnee EMC members to participate in supporting local charitable organizations within Sawnee EMC’s service territory…the areas where you live, work or play.

Operation Round Up is an exciting program that allows Sawnee EMC members to ‘round up’ their electric bill to the next highest dollar and these “pennies” a month are compiled and distributed, on a quarterly basis, to charitable organizations right here at home.  Think about it this way…the average member “rounds up” their bill 50 cents each month.  That’s only about $6.00 a year!

In 2006, participating members donated over $144,200.00 to Operation Round Up!  For a breakdown of the distribution of grants made in 2006, please visit us online at www.sawnee.com and click on the Operation Round Up triangle on our home page, or drop us a note and we will be glad to send you a copy of Operation Round Up’s  Annual Report.

Join your friends and neighbors and sign up for Operation Round Up today!  It’s easy and simple, and will help those less fortunate in our communities.  To sign up, contact our Customer Call Center at 770-887-2363 or visit us online.  Thank you.
