CUMMING, GA – On Monday, April 12th, Sawnee EMC will celebrate Employee Appreciation Day; and you are encouraged to join in this recognition. This time each year, electric cooperatives across the nation take the time to thank their employees who dedicate their lives to keeping the lights on in communities across the country. At Sawnee EMC, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, we depend on our entire staff of over 370 dedicated employees to keep the co-op running smoothly for our members.
Regardless of the time of day, braving stormy weather and other challenging conditions, sometimes working high in the air as the wind howls… lineworkers are the heartbeat of a power company. Being a lineworker takes years of specialized training, ongoing education, dedication, and equally important, a sense of service and commitment.
“It takes a special level of commitment, training, and resourcefulness for our linemen to work through the challenges they face each day,” states Chet Blackstock, Vice President of Operations. “They are the first responders of our electric operation and work around the clock until the job is done,” he further adds.
But for every lineworker who is out “on the front line”, there is person back at the cooperative who is just as important to our mission. Whether answering the phones 24 hours a day, or entering service orders, or dispatching crews, or developing a plan to restore power safely… It takes an “all hands on deck” approach when severe situations occur.
All of Sawnee’s employees, have an internal fortitude and a mission-oriented outlook to excel and meet the needs of its member-owners. “A service-oriented mentality is a hallmark characteristic of all of Sawnee EMC’s employees,” states Michael Goodroe, President and CEO. He further adds, “Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, our employees have worked together and stepped up to ensure we deliver the service and reliability our member-owners expect.”
On April 12th, should the opportunity arise, please take a moment and thank a member of Sawnee’s dedicated team professionals for their exceptional service in keeping the lights on each day.
