(CUMMING, GA) The Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation (Foundation), announced today that its Board of Directors has approved a special holiday donation of $50,000 to ten (10) local food banks. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and with the holiday season approaching, food banks in many areas, including the local communities served by Sawnee EMC, continue to be impacted and are still facing increased demand for their services. Regardless, the volunteers at these organizations continue to work tirelessly to serve those who rely on their services.
The Foundation has made possible an emergency donation that will allow the following non-profit organizations to purchase food and other necessities for individuals and families in need during the holiday season:
- The Place of Forsyth County, Inc
- St. Vincent de Paul, Christ Redeemer Conference
- The Marcus E. and Sharon B. Gunter Foundation, Inc.
- MUST Ministries, Inc.
- North Fulton Community Charities
- Senior Services North Fulton Co.
- Good Shepherd Clinic of Dawson County
- Hightower Baptist Association
- Meals on Wheels
- Bethany Place/Merismos Ministries
“It is my privilege to volunteer my service to the Sawnee Foundation. This donation supports the mission of the Foundation and its role in our communities,” states Deborah Pelfrey, Chair of the Sawnee Foundation Board. She further states, “The participation of Sawnee EMC members in the Foundation’s Operation Round Up Program make donations like this, and many others, possible.”
Each month, approximately 16,000 Sawnee EMC members round up their electric bill to the next highest dollar. This extra change goes directly into the Foundation and is gifted back into the communities Sawnee serves.
Participating Sawnee EMC members donate an average of $6 per year, and these small, yet generous, donations have allowed the Foundation Board to donate over $3.5 Million back into local communities since its inception in 2003.
