(CUMMING, GA)  The Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation (Foundation), announced today that their Board of Directors (Board) has approved funding, totaling $31,841.49, to assist thirty (30) local schools served by Sawnee EMC to assist with funding lunches for students.

The Foundation School Lunch Program initiative was launched in 2019 to assist with funding school lunches for children who may not have the means to purchase a “hot lunch”.

Of the schools that applied for funding during the Foundation’s 4th Quarter gifting, one (1) is located in Cherokee County, twenty-seven (27) are in Forsyth County and two (2) are in Fulton County.

These grants are made possible in part by generous Sawnee EMC members who voluntarily participate in the Sawnee EMC Operation Round Up program.  “We are always excited to be able to help children in our area.  The school lunch program has proven to be successful and continues to build strong community relationships,” states Blake House, Vice President of Member Services.  He further states, “… and with Giving Tuesday coming up on November 29th, participation in Operation Round Up is a great way for our members to give back locally.”

Through Operation Round UP, Sawnee EMC members contribute an average of $6 per year, but these small donations have allowed the Foundation to donate $3.8 Million back into the communities since 2003.
