(October 21, 2020) – The members from Sawnee EMC’s Directorate District #3 (Cumming) recently elected a director to represent their district on the Cooperative’s Board of Directors.
Initially, there were four (4) candidates seeking the office of director for District #3 (Cumming). No candidates received a “majority” of the votes cast in the earlier Directorate District Meeting, therefore resulting in a runoff election at a Special Directorate District Meeting between the top two (2) vote-getters, Mr. Bill Barnett and Mr. David Sexton.
The Special Directorate District Meeting was held on October 20th and the members from Sawnee’s District #3 (Cumming) elected Mr. Bill Barnett to serve
as their director.
Two (2) additional director seats, representing Sawnee’s District #5 (Ducktown) and District #8 (Ocee), were also up for consideration in 2020. The incumbent directors, Mr. Larry Evans, District #5 (Ducktown) and Ms. Donna Yost, District #8 (Ocee), were re-elected by the members of those districts, given the provisions outlined in the Corporation’s Bylaws.
“We are excited to be working with Mr. Bill Barnett and welcome him into his new position; we also congratulate Mr. Evans and Ms. Yost on their re-elections,” states Michael Goodroe, President and CEO of Sawnee EMC.
Mr. Bill Barnett replaces Mr. Lamar Sexton, who represented the members of Sawnee’s District #3 (Cumming) on Sawnee’s Board for 44 years until his retirement in 2019.
As a Cooperative, the Sawnee Bylaws lay out a process where members of the Cooperative who are seeking the office of director in a particular directorate district, are elected by the members of that district to represent them on the Cooperative’s Board.
“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Bill Barnett to his new role on our Board and extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Lamar Sexton for the service he provided the members of this great Cooperative,” states Blake House, Vice President, Member Services.
